Fencing · Posts, rails, pickets and concrete · default waste 5%

Numbers start at typical defaults — change anything. Every result states the inputs and assumptions used.

Applied once to each material quantity, then rounded up to the orderable increment.

Product assumptions — editable6

Sheet sizes, coverage rates, bundle counts, bag yield and similar come from the product you are buying. Change any of them to match your supplier — whatever you set is shown again with the result.

Two 60 lb bags per post is a common allowance in normal soil.

Two fasteners per rail crossing — 6 for a three-rail fence.

Enter your measurements and press "Calculate materials" to see the calculated quantity, waste-adjusted quantity and recommended order quantity.

What this calculator does

  • •Posts = ⌈fence length ÷ post spacing⌉ + 1, plus 1 extra post per gate for the hinge/latch pair
  • •Wood: rail linear ft = fence length × rails per bay; rails = rail linear ft ÷ rail stock length
  • •Wood pickets = fence length × (12 ÷ (picket width + gap))
  • •Panels = fence length ÷ panel width (post spacing sets panel width for panel systems)
  • •Chain link: fabric rolls = fence length ÷ roll length; ties = posts × ties per post
  • •Concrete = posts × bags per post
Deterministic by design: no AI, no lookups, no network calls — the same inputs always give the same numbers. Product values such as coverage rates and bundle counts are editable and shown with the result.
